“We deserve it” – Captain Ahmed Musa wants AFCON victory with Super Eagles

Ahmed Musa holds the record for the player with the most goals at the World Cup Finals as a Nigerian with four goals.

Sivasspor and Super Eagles forward, Ahmed Musa, has mentioned that the Nigerian football team deserve to win the AFCON 2023 trophy, Soccernet.ng reports.

Musa, 31, is one of the only two players to have won the AFCON previously with the Super Eagles, with Kenneth Omeruo as the second player. The pair won the trophy in the 2013 edition, hosted in South Africa.

The former Leicester City forward is yet to play a minute in Ivory Coast, but his importance in the squad has been played up by the coach and former Arsenal man, Alex Iwobi.

Speaking ahead of the AFCON 2023 final game, Musa revealed in his pre-match conference that the Super Eagles deserve a fourth title against the hosts.

“For me, I think this is one of my best AFCON tournaments. It has had a lot of surprises from the beginning up till the very end. The most important thing is to win the game tomorrow. It is more important for us Nigerians. We deserve it from the very first day, so, we’re going out to give our very best,” the former CSKA Moscow man revealed.

Quizzed about any noticeable changes in Ivory Coast’s side since they relieved Jean-Louis Gasset of his duties, Musa said;

“I don’t think there’s anything new about them, it’s just a few tactical and personality changes. For us, we just have to look back at the game we played against them, see what they changed and see what we can do with that.”

Should Nigeria win the final of the AFCON 2023 tournament tomorrow, Ahmed Musa and Kenneth Omeruo will become the first-ever Super Eagles players to win the AFCON twice
