WATCH: Osimhen folds, Aribo runs as ‘mad man’ pranks Super Eagles players ahead of AFCON 2023 final

Three-time continental champions Nigeria could claim their fourth crown with a win over the Ivorians on Sunday

In the lead-up to the highly anticipated 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and hosts Cote d’Ivoire, an unexpected twist unfolded as some players fell victim to a lighthearted prank by popular content creator Napi, Soccernet.ng reports.

Following their hard-fought victory over South Africa in the semifinals on Wednesday, the Super Eagles were granted a training-free day on Thursday.

Seizing the opportunity to unwind, players mingled with friends and fans.

However, the light-hearted atmosphere took an unexpected turn when Napi, known for his comedic antics, orchestrated a prank at the team’s hotel in Côte d’Ivoire.

In a one-minute video shared on both Instagram and TikTok, Napi, dressed as a barefooted and mentally challenged individual, entered the hotel lobby where Super Eagles players and guests were present.

The first target was Frank Onyeka, engaged in conversation with someone. Napi attempted to touch him, but the midfielder avoided the playful contact.

Undeterred, Napi approached Terem Moffi, aiming to touch the forward’s distinctive Afro. Moffi, however, skillfully avoided the prankster’s grasp.

Moving on to where Kenneth Omeruo was standing, Napi briefly stood before him before making his exit.

The climax of the prank featured Joe Aribo, who, moments away from taking the elevator, mistook Napi for a genuine ‘mad man’ and promptly fled the scene.

Not even star striker Victor Osimhen was spared, as he swiftly closed the elevator door upon encountering Napi face to face.

The entire episode, captured in Napi’s video, added a humorous touch to the Super Eagles’ preparations for the final clash.

The Super Eagles are expected to continue their preparation without distraction for the showdown against Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday, in what is Nigeria’s first AFCON final appearance since the 2013 tournament in South Africa.

Conversely, the Ivory Coast returns to the final for the first time since their 2015 triumph.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams in the AFCON final.
