Osimhen has featured in two games since his return from the Africa Cup of Nations, and he has been brilliant
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored for Napoli in their disappointing 1-1 draw against Cagliari at the Unipol Domus Stadium, Soccernet. ng reports.
Napoli returned to Serie A action on Sunday following their draw with Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League last week. And as expected, Osimhen was on the starting eleven.
Osimhen scored in midweek, and against a struggling Cagliari side, he had a good chance of scoring again.
However, Napoli were quite disappointing in the first half, creating only two opportunities, which they failed to take advantage of. Osimhen failed to link well with the supporting cast of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Giacomo Raspadori, and Napoli could have fallen behind if the VAR did not rule out Cagliari’s goal.
In the second half, Napoli started to play better, and they eventually got their breakthrough in the 65th minute through Osimhen, who leapt highest to head in a cross from Raspadori.
Osimhen was eventually taken off for Giovanni Simeone in the 85th minute. Before he was substituted, the Nigerian striker registered two shots and 18 touches.
Unfortunately for Napoli, they failed to see out the win, as Cagliari scored at the death courtesy of Zito Luvumbo. That ensured that the game ended 1-1.
Napoli remain ninth on the Serie A log, eleven points behind the top four positions.
