“The best of Nigeria is back” – CAF President Patrice Motsepe praises Super Eagles performance in AFCON 2023 tournament

Nigeria will take on Ivory Coast in the final of the AFCON 2023 tournament on Sunday after both sides met at the Stade Olympique Allassane Outtara in their Group stage clash.

President of The Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, has praised the Super Eagles for their performance at the AFCON 2023 tournament, Soccernet.ng reports.

Motsepe, 62, became the CAF President in March 2021, and alongside the hierarchy of the organization, put together one of the most entertaining and well-refereed footballing tournaments in AFCON 2023, hosted by Ivory Coast.

The South African, in his press conference ahead of the final clash between the hosts and Nigeria, praised the Super Eagles for getting the audience off their seats with their football.

“What they’ve achieved in the past is incredible. From the beautiful country, and it’ll even be more beautiful on Sunday. I’m so proud of Nigeria. Nigeria have two hundred and thirty million people people and as much as I want all of our nations to be involved, to get that amount of people excited is beautiful,” the former Mamelodi Sundowns chairman said.

The CAF President has been pleased with the quality of football on display by both sides that will be facing off in the AFCON 2023 final.

“To be able to get that many people, our people, because every one of the nations in Africa is our people, it means a lot. The best of Nigeria is back, the best of Cote d’Ivoire is back. I was asking about Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Senegal, and Ghana. We should support all of those countries and be proud of what they’ve achieved in the past,” he added.

Nigeria are on the verge of winning their fourth AFCON title, while the hosts eye their third title after winning it in 2015 and 1992.
