Super Eagles hero Stanley Nwabali sends ‘love’ message to South Africa after inspiring Nigeria’s semifinal win

The Chippa United shot-stopper produced the most beautiful moments for the three-time winners on a night he has vowed never to forget

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has sent his love to South Africans and their fans despite helping Nigeria beat the Bafana Bafana on Wednesday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nwabali was the hero for Nigeria as the West African giants advanced to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the expense of the South Africans.

The two nations played out a 1-1 draw in regulation time, with Nwabali conceding for the first time in five matches at the continental showpiece.

The tie went into a penalty shootout, with every attention on South Africa’s goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, who made history by saving four penalties from Cape Verde in the quarterfinals.

However, Nwabali emerged as the star of the show as he stopped two South African penalties to help Nigeria secure a 4-2 victory.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper, who plays his professional football in South Africa for Chippa United, was named the Man of the Match for his spectacular display.

And in the euphoria of a historic moment, Nwabali still had the time and empathy to send his love and affection to South African fans.

“This is a game I’m born to play,” Nwabali wrote on Instagram.

“A night to remember!!! I felt every bit of it!! Brick by brick and dreams are coming true.

“No love lost at all. I still love South Africa as much as their fans love me. My name is Nwabali Stanley Bobo and I love this team with all my heart. Safe hands.”

After winning the hearts of millions of Nigerians with his impressive outing in the tournament, Nwabali will look to crown his effort with the trophy when Nigeria meet Cote d’Ivoire in the final.

Hosts Cote d’Ivoire secured their berth in the title decider with a 1-0 win over DR Congo in the other semifinal on Wednesday.
