Victor Osimhen scored in Nigeria’s game against South Africa but it was ruled out after VAR recalled a foul in the build up by Alhassan Yusuf, resulting in a penalty kick for the opposition.
Former Togo and Arsenal striker, Emmanuel Oluwasheyi Adebayor, has pitched his tent with the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of their AFCON 2023 final clash against Ivory Coast, Soccernet.ng reports.
Adebayor, 39, played for several European clubs like Metz, Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, Real Madrid, Monaco and Istanbul Basaksehir.
He won the African player of the Year award in 2008, and helped the Togolese team to the quarter-finals of the AFCON 2013 tournament in South Africa.
Speaking in an exclusive chat with The Daily Post after Nigeria’s win over South Africa, the former Monaco forward revealed he’ll be supporting Napoli talisman, Victor Osimhen in the AFCON 2023 final.
“I’m here in the Super Eagles hotel to support the team and offer my support to Osimhen. He is doing well and is a pride to our continent. We all must rally round him to give him our support,” the former Kayserispor man said.
Born in Togo to parents of Nigerian origin, Adebayor has always been a vocal supporter of Osimhen, and has urged him to make a move to the English Premier League so as to play alongside the best players in the country.
Nigeria will take on The Elephants of Cote D’ivoire on Sunday as they look to win their fourth AFCON title.
