Ola Aina featured in all of the seven games the Super Eagles played at the AFCON 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast as Nigeria ended up with a silver medal.
Nottingham Forest head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, has given an update on the injury situation of Super Eagles versatile full-back, Soccernet.ng reports.
Aina, 27, made the AFCON 2023 team of the tournament and played a huge role as Nigeria got to the final of the competition in Ivory Coast.
In the final against the hosts, the former Torino wing-back looked jaded and sapped of energy, but still went on to play the entire game as the Super Eagles fell to a 2-1 defeat.
He returned to Nottingham Forest’s training after the tournament but hasn’t played any game since the final at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpé.
Nottingham coach, Nuno, has given an update on the state of the Nigerian full-back, alongside the two AFCON 2023 winners in the squad.
“We have some problems. Ola Aina, Willy Boly and Ibrahim Sangare all returned injured and their return date cannot be scheduled right now,” the 50-year-old manager said on the club’s official website in his pre-game presser ahead of their clash against Una Emery’s Aston Villa.
Nottingham Forest are currently 16th on the English Premier League table, four points above Everton and Luton Town who have twenty points each.
The next set of games the Reds will play will have a huge impact on their final position at the end of the season. After Aston Villa, Nottingham will play Manchester United, Liverpool, Brighton and Hove Albion and Luton Town.
