Nigerians abroad: Otele, Sor, Otubanjo fire goals aplenty in Romania, Belgium, Armenia

Soccernet.ng monitored dozens of matches that could potentially involve Nigerian players on Friday, February 23rd.

Here are the most eye-catching highlights:

Armenia

Nigerian stars Tenton Yenne and Yusuf Otubanjo stole the headlines as Ararat-Armenia carved out a thrilling 3-1 victory against Pyunik.

23-year-old forward Yenne netted a brace for the home team, either side of a strike from Guinea’s Mohamed Lamine Yattara, while Otubanjo, 31, grabbed the consolation goal for the visitors.

Belgium

Taofeek Ismaheel secured his fifth league goal of the season to help SK Beveren battle to a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Deinze in the Challenger Pro League.

In the First Division A, Tolu Arokodare featured from start to finish, but it was Yira Sor who was the super-sub netting the winning goal for Genk in their 1-0 victory over Sporting Charleroi.

Egypt

Five Nigerians were involved as Baladiyyat Al Mehalla lost 3-5 at home to Ceramica Cleopatra in the Egyptian Premier League.

Favour Akem, John Ebuka, and Sodiq Olamilekan Ougola all started, while Samuel Amadi entered the fray after the break for Ceramica Cleopatra.

Former Warri Wolves starlet Emmanuel Ihezuo, 22, was a 78th-minute substitute for Baladiyyat Al Mehalla.

Ougola scored Ceramica’s second goal while Ebuka assisted the third as the visitors sealed their fifth league win of the season to climb to fifth on the table.

France

In Ligue 1, Gift Orban was replaced at halftime as goals from Lacazette and Benrahma powered Lyon to a fine 2-1 win at Metz.

Germany

In the Bundesliga, Nigeria international Nathan Tella came off the bench to help Bayer Leverkusen make history in their 3-1 victory over Mainz.

With the win, Bayer Leverkusen became the first German team to avoid defeat in their first 33 games of the season across all competitions.

Romania

It was another Naija show in the Romanian Liga 1 as Philip Otele and Peter Michael guided CFR Cluj to a convincing 4-0 win over eternal rivals Dinamo Bucureşti.

Otele delivered a man-of-the-match performance as he netted a brace as compatriot Michael chipped in the assist for Otele’s first goal.

Spain

Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq continued his search for his first goal since December as he fired blanks for Real Sociedad in their disappointing 1-3 loss at home to Villarreal.
