Nigeria vs South Africa: Reported date for Super Falcon’s Olympic qualifiers clash against Banyana Banyana revealed

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are aiming to secure an Olympic qualification for the first time in 16 years

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are set to face the South African women’s national team in the final round of the Olympic qualification tie, Soccernet.ng reports.

Following a 1-0 aggregate victory against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, Randy Waldrum’s troops earned the opportunity to take on South Africa, who defeated Tanzania with a 4-0 aggregate.

The highly anticipated clash between Nigeria and South Africa reflects the rivalry between Afrobeat and Amapiano, reminiscent of Nigeria’s 2023 AFCON Semi-final showdown against South Africa, where Nigeria emerged victorious on penalties.

A date has been scheduled for this upcoming clash, reportedly on the 1st of April at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja. Subsequently, the Nigerian women will travel to South Africa for the second leg of the encounter.

Typically, there is a four-day interval for a return leg in their past few qualifiers, but as per reports, the Nigerian women will travel eight days later to face the South Africans for the second leg of the doubleheader clash, scheduled for the 9th of April.

When Soccernet.ng inquired about these dates with the Super Falcons’ media officer, she said that she was unable to confirm them at this time.

“I cannot confirm the exact date. I only know that the next window for the South Africa game is from the 1st – the 9th of April, just like this concluded games were from 19th – 28th of February” she told Soccernet.ng.

The 11-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions have not secured a ticket to participate in the Olympic tournament for the past 16 years, and they are poised to break that streak as they prepare to face South Africa in April.

Meanwhile, Banyana Banyana made their Olympic debut in 2012, followed by their second appearance in the 2016 Rio Games.
