Like Nigeria, Ivorian, South African players get cash gifts after AFCON

The Super Eagles were treated to a warm reception after they returned to the country, but they are not the ones who have been recognized by their government

Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations opponents South Africa and Cote d’Ivoire have received cash gifts from their governments following their performances at the Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles were treated to a warm welcome by the Nigerian government after their return from the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, where they finished second. The Tinubu-led government gifts each player a land and an apartment in Abuja, and they all got bestowed the Member of the Order of the Niger title.

However, the Super Eagles are not the only ones who have gotten such rewards for their performance in Coted’Ivoire. According to the BBC, the South African and Ivorian government have gifted their players cash gifts.

South Africa, who finished third are set to receive $52,000 per player. Also, every player in Ivory Coast’s AFCON winning squad will get $82,000 and get a villa worth the same amount.

All these gifts are asides from their allowances for playing at the AFCON. The next AFCON is next year, and the Super Eagles will be looking to do one better and win the competition.
