Nigeria’s star Osimhen has abdominal upset, misses team’s flight to Bouake for South Africa game

Victor Osimhen has played a significant role at the Super Eagles frontline in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign so far

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen is set to miss the Nigerian national team’s first flight to Bouaké as a result of an illness, Soccernet.ng reports.

In a recent update shared by the Super Eagles media officer, Babafemi Raji, it has been revealed that the Napoli forward will not be joining the team on their flight from Abidjan to Bouaké scheduled for today at 10 p.m. via Air Cote d’Ivoire.

The decision comes as a precautionary measure following an episode of abdominal discomfort experienced by the player.

Team medics have confirmed that Osimhen is under close observation, and a member of the medical team will stay behind in Abidjan to monitor his condition.

If cleared by tomorrow morning, Osimhen is expected to rejoin the squad before 5 p.m., ahead of the upcoming engagements. Further updates on his status will be provided as the situation unfolds.

As previously reported by Soccernet, no injuries have been recorded during or after the game against Angola, indicating the team’s preparedness for the clash against South Africa.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to face South Africa on Wednesday, aiming to secure all points against their Southern African opponents.
