AFCON 2023: Former Super Eagles captain heaps praise on Ademola Lookman’s performance

Ademola Lookman switched allegiance to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria after representing the England youth team at all levels.

Former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, has praised Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman, for his stellar performance at the AFCON 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast, Soccernet.ng reports.

Lookman, 26, has lit up the AFCON 2023 tournament with three goals and an assist, scoring all of Nigeria’s goals in the knockout stage in Ivory Coast.

The goals of the former RB Leipzig man has called for praise from the lips of Joseph Yobo. Yobo, 43, was a part of the Nigerian team that won the AFCON 2013 trophy in South Africa under the mentorship Of Stephen Keshi.

The 97-time capped Super Eagle, in a discussion with Afrosports after Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Angola mentioned how important Lookman’s goals have been for Jose Peseiro’s men.

“I am happy for Lookman at this tournament because he has been getting us the goals. This is his third goal in AFCON and I love the way he handled each game. His combination with Osimhen, has been great.”

Ademola Lookman featured across several positions in the frontline of the Super Eagles, causing constant problems for Pedro Goncalves’s side.

Nigeria have been solid defensively and have kept things tight at the back, conceding just one goal, and keeping four clean sheets in five games and are set for a thrilling semi-final clash in Ivory Coast at the stakes get higher.
