Jose Peseiro led the Super Eagles of Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations but lost to the host nation Cote d’Ivoire
Portuguese manager José Peseiro is currently in talks with the Algerian Football Federation after his contract with the Nigerian Football Federation expired, as reported by Soccernet.ng.
According to reports from various sources in Nigeria, Peseiro met the target set by the NFF to reach the semi-finals before a contract renewal could be considered.
Despite guiding the Super Eagles of Nigeria to the runners-up position in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, he has reportedly declined to extend his deal.
Rumours suggest that the 63-year-old coach has reached an agreement with the FAF to lead the Algerian national team, signaling his departure from the Super Eagles.
Meanwhile, Algerian media outlet El Hayat reports that Peseiro is still awaiting the final contract from the FAF to sign.
Concurrently, negotiations are underway with Swiss professional football manager Vladimir Petković, who is reportedly close to finalising a deal to manage Algeria.
However, complications have arisen regarding two clauses in Petkovic’s contract, prompting discussions between the FAF lawyer and the coach’s legal representative to resolve the issues.
There is speculation that Peseiro may have multiple offers on the table, with the possibility of taking over the Algerian national team prompting the NFF to hasten their decision-making process.
