Moses Simon missed a chance to score from the spot kick as the Super Eagles lost 2-0 to Guinea in Abu Dhabi in preparation for the AFCON tournament.
Super Eagles head coach, Jose Vitor Peseiro, has fired a warning message to Nigeria’s AFCON group rivals, Equatorial Guinea, Soccernet.ng reports.
Peseiro, 63, heads to Ivory Coast for his first tournament as the coach of the Super Eagles since taking over on 15th May, 2022. The manager, ahead of the competition has always made it clear that nothing but triumph will do for him in Ivory Coast.
Nigeria camped in Abu Dhabi and played two friendlies in preparation for Africa’s biggest football competition, and will play their first game on Sunday against the Nzalang Nacional Los Elefantes of Equatorial Guinea.
Speaking at the training camp yesterday, the ex-Porto manager highlighted he wants Nigeria to start the tournament on the front foot, considering they’re playing against a side with a solid history in AFCON.
“It’s a short tournament, a difficult tournament, and a hard tournament. Equatorial Guinea did better than us in the last tournament and they’re a very good team, but we want to win, we want to put the focus on everything. The trainings, the meals, the rest, all hundred percent focus so we can get the win on Sunday, it’s important for us,” Peseiro said in his press rounds.
Jose Peseiro will be without Victor Boniface in Ivory Coast after the Leverkusen forward picked up an injury, and was replaced by Terem Moffi.
