William Troost-Ekong scored from the penalty spot as the Super Eagles defeated Ivory Coast on the second matchday at the AFCON 2023 tournament.

Super Eagles and PAOK central defender, William Troost-Ekong, showed off his unwavering patriotism for Nigeria by having a tattoo of the Coat of arms drawn on his arm, Soccernet.ng reports.

Troost-Ekong, 30, was born in the Netherlands, to a Dutch mother and a Nigerian father. He represented the Netherlands at the youth level before opting to play for Nigeria in 2015, making his debut against Chad.

Since then, the PAOK defender has made sixty-four appearances in the Nigerian shirt, scoring five goals across several competitions.

Now with his immaculate maturity as a leader at the back, the Super Eagles have kept two clean sheets at the AFCON 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast.

In the light of a recent video uploaded by Oluwatoyin Ibitoye, Ekong revealed his lifelong passion for the Super Eagles, showing his patriotism for his country.

The former Watford centre-back showed off the alluring tattoo on his sleeve, revealing the Nigerian coat of arms. He mentioned he’s had the tattoo for a while and that Nigeria is forever in his heart.

The former Udinese defender also has a tattoo of one of the best Nigerian musical exports, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, showcasing his musical taste buds are inclined to Nigeria as well.

Ekong missed Nigeria’s game against Guinea-Bissau due to a knee injury but is expected to be back for Nigeria’s round of sixteen clash against Andre Onana’s Cameroon.
