Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface starts rehabilitation at Bayer Leverkusen after missing AFCON

Boniface was initially selected in Nigeria’s 25-man squad, but he missed out due to a groin injury

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface shared pictures of himself in a physiotherapy session following surgery to correct a groin injury, Soccernet.ng reports.

Boniface, who has had a stellar start to life at Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen, made Jose Peseiro’s 25-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. Unfortunately, he was ruled out of the competition just days before the start after sustaining a groin injury in training. In Boniface’s place, Nice star Terem Moffi was called up.

Following his injury, Boniface returned to Bayer Leverkusen, where he was diagnosed with a muscle-tendon injury in his right adductor area. He later underwent surgery on January 10 to help him heal.

In a related development, Boniface shared pictures of himself during a physiotherapy session at Bayer Leverkusen.

Boniface still has a long road before reaching full recovery, though. According to Bayer Leverkusen, he will be out till April, which means he will miss at least the next twelve of the club’s games.

In Boniface’s place, Czech Republic talisman Patrik Schick would have to step up and deliver the goals as Die Werkself push for the Bundesliga title.
