Super Eagles fans suffer big setback as DSTV’s Supersport will not broadcast AFCON games

Over the years, Supersport has been the home of the Africa Cup of Nations, but there will be a big shift this year

Nigerian football fans have to start searching for alternatives to watch the Africa Cup of Nations, as Multichoice have announced that SuperSport will not air the games, Soccernet.ng reports.

In recent years, Multichoice’s SuperSport has been the home of the AFCON. And that has added to its popularity in Nigeria and other African countries.

Going into the AFCON in Ivory Coast, SuperSport were expected to be the official media platform to watch all the games. But that will not be the case.

On Wednesday, Multichoice released a circular informing fans that SuperSport will not air the AFCON games live.

In a related development, Startimes will show the games, but the shift and the expenses may be too much for Super Eagles fans. Nonetheless, they can rely on terrestrial TV stations and streaming sites.

Nigeria will be aiming to claim a fourth African title in Ivory Coast under the tutelage of Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro.

The Super Eagles begin their journey on January 14 with a game against Equatorial Guinea. Then, they play hosts Ivory Coast four days later before rounding up with a fixture against Guinea-Bissau.
