Wilfred Ndidi was expected to play an important role for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, but Peseiro would have to do without him
Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has been ruled out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after suffering an injury just days before the start of the competition, Soccernet.ng reports.
Ndidi was included in Jose Peseiro’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, and he would have played an important part for the team in their challenge for the fourth title.
The defensive midfielder is one of the best in Africa and is also one of the most experienced players in the Super Eagles, having played at the World Cup and the Nations Cup.
Unfortunately, Peseiro would have to make do without the 27-year-old midfielder as he has sustained an injury, per the X (formerly Twitter) page of the Super Eagles.
In his place, Peseiro has called up Antwerp star Alhassan Yusuf, who will be making his debut at the tournament. The 23-year-old will be the only proper defensive midfielder on the team. However, Frank Onyeka can also adapt to that position if need be.
Meanwhile, Kelechi Iheanacho is also a doubt for the competition as he is not 100 percent fit.

Honestly, this is indeed a big blow for the super Eagles who are looking forward to a fourth continental title. Ndidi is one of the best defensive midfielders in Africa. It's rather unfortunate. Well his impact would be felt when we get to the knockout stage. I hope for the best for my country
