Peseiro and Nwabali respond to injury concerns: Will Union SG-linked goalie be fit for Angola clash?

Stanley Nwabali’s performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations has been spotted by Belgian side, Royale Union SG, who are eyeing a move for him

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, expressed uncertainty about Stanley Nwabali’s current injury status, hoping for his recovery before the upcoming clash, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nwabali sustained an injury during Nigeria’s match against Cameroon when Georges-Kevin N’Koudou fouled him while attempting to intercept a cross from Jean-Charles Castelletto.

Following the incident, Francis Uzoho replaced the Chippa United goalkeeper, who had delivered an impressive performance throughout Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

After the game, curiosity grew among the fans, as well as the media, who questioned the Portuguese tactician on when Nwabali will return to action.

“I’m not sure at this moment. But it’s impossible to react to the situation. [We’d] 24 to 48 hours before you [get to] know what [really] happened. He told me ‘Mr. I’ll recover for the next match’, but if he cannot, we are going to play a goalkeeper, we would play 11 players, I believe in all my players. But I’d like him to recover” he answered.

Nwabali, speaking to the media after the game revealed he his still feeling the pain, but he would have to wait for the doctor’s report to see the extent of the pain.

“[I don’t know but] maybe the doctor would tell, but I’m still feeling pains. You know when injury is new, you always feel pains.” he said.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria, after their 2-nil victory against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, will tackle Angola at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium
