Lobi Stars players and coaches are in a jubilant mood after they began the year receiving gifts from the number one citizen of Benue State, Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, Soccernet.ng reports.
Impressed by the team’s impressive start to the 2023/24 season, Governor Alia invited and hosted players and officials to a luncheon at the State House in Makurdi on Wednesday, January 10.
The Nigerian Catholic cleric turned politician, showing his gratitude for the club’s performances, handed Lobi Stars gifts of three buses and a Hilux to aid their transportation to match and training venues.
In his speech, Gov Alia charged Lobi Stars to keep up their top performances and continue to be a source of joy for the people of the state.
“Thank you for putting smiles on the faces of Benue People,” Gov Alia said.
“Football is very infectious. Whether you are a player, a fan, or not, once you hear that Lobi Stars are out there, you are just looking forward to hearing good news.
“I’m proud to associate with all of you. I thank you for making me and this administration proud.”
Lobi Stars currently sit joint-top with Remo Stars on the Nigeria Professional Football League table with 32 points from 17 games.
The Ortom Boys have not won the league title since claiming the honours in 1999 – 25 years ago.
