The Super Eagles will be looking to make history in Ivory Coast, and Sanwo-Olu has backed them to perform

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has backed Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which is set to kick off on January 13, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria will be looking to claim a fourth African crown in Ivory Coast later this month when the AFCON begins. The Super Eagles had a decent preparation, camping in Dubai for a week before returning to Lagos, where they were hosted to a lavish dinner by Governor Sanwo-Olu.

Following the dinner, they departed for Ivory Coast on Wednesday, and they have started training ahead of their first game against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

Sanwo-Olu has sent the Super Eagles a message ahead of their opening game, urging them to return with the Nations Cup.

“Throwback to this beautiful night of excellence and laughter as we hosted the Super Eagles before they set off for AFCON 2023.

“I am looking forward to their first match, and the message to them was clear, ‘No gree for anybody’ Bring home the Nations Cup,” Sanwo-Olu wrote.

After the game against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, Nigeria will play hosts Ivory Coast on January 18. Their final group game will be against Guinea-Bissau on January 22.
