Nigeria XI vs Guinea-Bissau – Kenneth Omeruo in, Troost-Ekong out: How will Super Eagles line up against the Djurtus?

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to face Guinea-Bissau in their matchday two clash of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the Stade Félix-Houphouët-Boigny, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

In preparation for this crucial encounter against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau, the Super Eagles aim to secure all points to ensure qualification for the next round of the competition. Despite recent challenges, including injuries to key players, the team remains focused on the task at hand.

Soccernet.ng provides insight into how Jose Peseiro may line up his squad for this decisive final group stage clash, which will determine their fate in the 34th edition of the AFCON tournament.

Goalkeeper:

Stanley Nwabali, who impressed more than Francis Uzoho in the previous match against the Ivory Coast, is expected to retain his position in goal for the Super Eagles.

Defenders:

For this clash, Troost-Ekong was spotted training separately alongside Porto FC defender, Zaidu Sanusi, which indicates that the two defenders might not be available to start for the Super Eagles.

Instead, Bruno Onyemaechi, Kenneth Omeruo may be introduced into the squad to earn their first appearance in this tournament.

This means that the Super Eagles’ backline will see Omeruo replace Troost-Ekong, and Bruno replace Onyemaechi. While Ola Aina, Calvin Bassey, and Semi Ajayi maintain their spot.

Midfield:

The midfield formation is likely to remain unchanged, with Frank Onyeka alongside Alex Iwobi in the middle of the park.

Forward:

Victor Osimhen, spotted training with the group, is expected to be fit for the upcoming clash. Kelechi Iheanacho may replace Samuel Chukwueze, while Ademola Lookman is likely to maintain his position in the frontline.

Formation (3-4-3):

Nwabali; Omeruo, Ajayi, Bassey; Aina, Iwobi, Onyeka, Bruno; Lookman, Osimhen, Iheanacho

  • You said if played this would be both Onyemaechi and Omeruo's first game in the tournament but Omeruo has already been featured - he came on as a sub in the last game.
