Nigeria vs Guinea-Bissau: Ex-Chelsea star emphasizes serious approach in crucial AFCON 2023 clash

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are slated to tackle Guinea-Bissau at the Stade Félix-Houphouët-Boigny for their 2023 AFCON match day three clash

Kasimpasa defender, Kenneth Omeruo, has disclosed that the Super Eagles are gearing up with utmost seriousness for their final group match against Guinea-Bissau, Soccernet.ng reports.

Currently second in Group A, Super Eagles and Equatorial Guinea both have four points each, with the goal difference placing Nigeria behind.

The Super Eagles aspire to clinch the top spot in Group A and continue their campaign in Abidjan. Omeruo, the former Chelsea defender, emphasised the upcoming match’s significance, acknowledging it as an intriguing contest against a familiar opponent.

“Our match against Guinea Bissau is going to be an interesting match.” said the former Chelsea defender in a presser witnessed by Soccernet.ng reports.

Despite some considering it an easy fixture, Omeruo highlighted the competitive nature of the tournament, showcasing the improvement of African teams.

He added: “This is a team that we are familiar with, and though some people said the match is going to be an easy match, it is not going to be an easy one, especially in this tournament; a lot of big teams are struggling, and that tells you how to improve the African teams are now.
“I think we are going to approach the match with all seriousness and try to win tomorrow’s (today’s) match.”

Emphasising the team’s comprehensive preparation, Omeruo acknowledged the challenges posed by Guinea-Bissau and stressed the need to analyse their strengths.

“We need to take every game as it comes; I know we have a slogan, ‘Let’s do it again,’ but we still have a lot to do before the final; we all know this, and we have been working hard towards our match against Guinea-Bissau. We have analysed the team,” Omeruo said

With a collective understanding of the game’s importance, the Super Eagles aim to enter the match with a winning mindset.

Omeruo concluded by affirming the team’s hard work and dedication towards achieving success in the crucial encounter against Guinea-Bissau.

The Nigerian international added: “We know their strengths, and we are working towards that in training, and the boys know how important the game is. We will approach the match with a good mindset of winning,”
