Another Nigerian may join the Ligue 1 train as Lille make bid for Akpom

The Nigerian forward just moved to Ajax last summer, but he could exit soon

French Ligue 1 club Lille have sent a bid to Ajax for out-of-favour Nigerian attacker Chuba Akpom, Soccernet.ng reports.

Akpom impressed at Middlesbrough last season, registering 28 goals in Championship appearances, but his contributions were not enough to land them a place in the Premier League.

With just one year left on his contract, Akpom left Middlesbrough for Dutch giants Ajax. Unfortunately, the deal has not worked out as planned.

The 28-year-old forward has been limited to just 20 appearances across all competitions this season, and he has contributed nine goals.

Despite donning Ajax’s iconic number 10 jersey, Akpom has been on the periphery. Due to his lack of game time at the, there have been talks that he will leave Amsterdam in the January transfer window.

In a new development per Transfer News Live, Lille have sent an official offer to Ajax for Akpom’s services. Ajax signed Akpom for €12.3 million, and considering his lack of game time, the former Arsenal man’s lack of game time, he could go for less than €10 million.

Lille are not the only team interested, though, as an English side and an Italian club want Akpom’s services.

If Lille succeeds in their bid, Akpom will join other Nigerians in the Ligue 1, like Terem Moffi, Innocent Bonke, Akor Adams, and Gift Orban, who just joined Lyon.
