The Super Eagles have been impressive at the AFCON, but Lookman believes that they are yet to reach their best
Super Eagles attacker Ademola Lookman has stated that the team has not reached their peak at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng reports.
Many Nigerian fans were quite skeptical about the Super Eagles’ chances of success in the 2023 AFCON. However, they have grown into the competition slowly.
After drawing their first game of the competition against Equatorial Guinea, Jose Peseiro’s lads picked up the pace in their second game against Ivory Coast. Then, they picked up wins against Guinea-Bissau and Cameroon in the round of 16.
Nigeria’s 2-0 win against Cameroon in the last round pitched them up with Angola in the quarter-finals. Ahead of the game against the Palancas Negras, Atalanta hitman Lookman has stated that the team is yet to reach their best.
“We’ve not reached our best yet. Definitely as a squad, we have gotten better as the competition has gone on, and we hope to continue that way,” Lookman told Soccernet.ng.
Nigeria have a slight upper-hand over Angola because of their superior quality on paper. However, if they do not perform to their optimum level, the Palancas Negras could pounce. Moreover, Angola already forced Algeria to a draw in this competition.
