The were low expectations from the game, but the Super Eagles shocked Nigerian fans and the host

Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has stated that’s he is happy with Nigeria’s victory over Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles bounced back from a disappointing result against Equatorial Guinea with a big win over 2023 AFCON hosts Cote d’Ivoire.

A lot of football lovers did not have faith in the team because of their 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea in their first game, but the team put up a dogged show to seal the win.

William Troost-Ekong scored the opener for Nigeria in the 55th minute after Osimhen won a penalty. After going behind, Cote d’Ivoire probed hard for the equalizer, but the Super Eagles held their lines and gave nothing away.

Speaking after the game, Bassey, who was superb shared his satisfaction with the win.

“Of course I’m happy, we’ve got the win against a good side and we showed we can play against top sides and still hold our own,” Bassey said per Soccernet.

“Of course, there always gonna be things to work on, but I think we’ve done well.”
