AFCON 2023: Nigeria XI vs Côte d’Ivoire— Victor Osimhen, Stanley Nwabali, and Samuel Chukwueze start for Super Eagles

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are looking to secure all three points after a disppointing draw in their first 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations clash against Equatorial Guinea

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to take on hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the Olympique Alassane Ouattara Stadium, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

In anticipation of the clash, head coach Jose Peseiro has unveiled the official squad list. Napoli forward Victor Osimhen leads the frontline, with Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze returning to the starting line up. Frank Onyeka sits—alongside Alex Iwobi—in place of the injured Alhassan Yusuf from Nigeria’s previous clash against the Central Africans.

Nigeria seeks its first victory at the 2023 AFCON tournament following a draw against Equatorial Guinea. In contrast, Cote d’Ivoire secured an impressive 2-0 victory against Guinea-Bissau in the opening game.

The Super Eagles, having experienced a disappointing draw, aim to avoid defeat and possibly secure a win against hosts Cote d’Ivoire to enhance their chances of advancing to the knockout round.

Soccernet.ng highlights the tactical approach of head coach Jose Peseiro, setting up his team in a 4-3-3 formation:

23. Stanley Nwabali
5. William Ekong (c)
6. Semi Ajayi
21. Calvin Bassey
3. Sanusi Zaidu
8. Frank Onyeka
17. Alex Iwobi
2. Ola Aina
18. Ademola Lookman
11. Samuel Chukwueze
9. Victor Osimhen
