AFCON 2023: Nigeria camp update ahead of Cameroon clash – Osimhen, Troost-Ekong, Sanusi fit for ‘war’

The two African powerhouses will lock horns in Abidjan on Saturday in what is one of the most anticipated ties at the 34th edition of the continental showpiece

Nigeria’s Super Eagles squad is in prime condition as they gear up for their showdown with Cameroon in the round-of-16 clash on Saturday at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng reports.

The highly anticipated encounter between Nigeria and Cameroon is set to ignite football fever as both teams vie for a spot in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

In their final training session before the crucial match, all 25 Nigerian players were present and accounted for, presenting a formidable lineup for the coaching crew to work with.

Good news for the Super Eagles as key players, such as Victor Osimhen, William Troost-Ekong, and Zaidu Sanusi, are declared fit despite initial concerns over their availability due to various knocks and injuries.

Former Watford man Troost-Ekong, who missed Nigeria’s last game against Guinea-Bissau, has fully recovered and is back in action, reinforcing Nigeria’s defensive line alongside Kenneth Omeruo, who deputised admirably in Ekong’s absence.

Furthermore, Leicester City’s Iheanacho has overcome his injury setback, boosting Nigeria’s attacking options.

Alhassan Yusuf was also given the green light after being sidelined for two games following an impressive debut tainted by injury against Equatorial Guinea.

Porto defender Sanusi, absent from the starting lineup against Guinea-Bissau, has also resumed training with the squad, adding depth to Nigeria’s defensive setup.

With all star players firing on all cylinders, Nigeria appear well-equipped to take on Cameroon in what has been labelled by the legendary Segun Odegbami as a ‘war’ on the pitch.

Adding to the intrigue, the Super Eagles boast an impressive record against the Indomitable Lions, having emerged victorious in their last four competitive encounters.

Nigeria’s epic showdown with Cameroon is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, 27th January 2024, at 21:00 WAT (9:00 pm Nigerian Time) at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan.
