AFCON 2023: Jose Peseiro reveals goalscoring plans ahead of Cameroon clash

Jose Peseiro took over the helm of affairs with the Super Eagles in May 2022 and has overseen eighteen games with the team, winning eight.

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has outlined his team’s goalscoring plans ahead of their AFCON 2023 round of sixteen clash against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, Soccernet.ng reports.

Peseiro, 63, took the Nigerian football team to second place in the Group A standings, bagging seven points from three games, and defeating the host, Ivory Coast on home turf.

The Super Eagles have also been solid at the back, keeping two clean sheets from three games, but have been wasteful in front of goal, scoring just one from open play, and three in total.

Speaking in his pre-match presser ahead of Nigeria’s clash against Cameroon, Peseiro revealed that his plan for the team to score more goals is for them to play as a team.

“Play together, play like a team, and the most important thing is the result, to win the game. This tournament is a short one and we need to be decisive in specific positions,” the former Porto manager revealed.

Peseiro revealed his team’s duty, focusing on the need to be compact in defence and to score at least a goal.

“That’s why I prefer to keep things tight at the back and at the same time we want to play offensive football. Tomorrow, we want to keep a clean sheet and score at least one. Then maybe we could get more,” the Portuguese coach added.

Nigeria will play against Cameroon at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Ivory Coast by 9:00 PM W.A.T.
