AFCON 2023: Here’s what Frank Onyeka had to say about Nigeria’s win over Cameroon

Frank Onyeka has deputized very well in the absence of Wilfred Ndidi who missed out on the AFCON 2023 tournament due to an injury which required surgery.

Super Eagles and Brentford midfielder, Frank Onyeka has revelled in joy after Nigeria sealed qualification to the quarter-final of the AFCON 2023 tournament by defeating Cameroon 2-0, Soccernet.ng reports.

Onyeka, 26, has featured for the Super Eagles in every game so far at the AFCON 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast, and was everywhere last night, disrupting the flow of the game for the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

Two goals from Ademola Lookman sealed the win for Jose Peseiro’s men, and the Brentford midfielder wasted no time in showing how happy he was.

Speaking in his post-match interview, the former Midtjylland midfielder revealed how the Super Eagles stopped Cameroon from mustering a single shot on target.

“We tried to play our own game, tried to do our best and we tried to close them down, and we’re happy to come out with a win,” the versatile midfielder told Soccernet.ng.

Jose Peseiro’s men will face Angola on the 2nd of February in their quarter-final tie, and Onyeka claims he’s not wavering in the team’s pursuit of glory.

“We’ll rest today, as we have to enjoy this win today and then we focus on the next game, so we don’t know what we’re going to face but we’re ready,” he added.

The Super Eagles have been superb at the back since the start of the AFCON tournament, conceding just one goal and keeping three clean sheets in four games.
