The young Nigerian midfielder had a very good performance in his AFCON debut, but he sustained a knock
Super Eagles midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has revealed that he has started light work on the pitch and will return to action soon, Soccernet.ng reports.
Yusuf made his Super Eagles debut on January 14 in Nigeria’s first game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations against Equatorial Guinea. He had an impressive showing as he covered every blade of grass.
Unfortunately, the 23-year-old midfielder was taken off in the 69th minute after he seemed to have sustained an injury. But after the game, coach Jose Peseiro allayed fears that Yusuf would be out for long, stating that it was a slight knock. Still, he missed Nigeria’s second game against Ivory Coast.
However, Yusuf may return to action for Nigeria soon as he has resumed light training. He has revealed that he would be fully fit in a day or two.
“I’ll return to action very soon. I’ve started to jog already and do some work on the pitch. In one or two days, Insha Allah, I will be back,” Yusuf told Tobi Adepoju.
Nigeria play their final group-stage game against Guinea-Bissau on January 22, and Yusuf may have to undergo a late fitness test to make the team.
