Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has shared his thoughts and delight at the manner of Leicester City’s nail-biting 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorn that solidified their top spot in the Sky Bet Championship, Soccernet.ng reports.
Ndidi played a pivotal role in the Foxes’ triumph, providing the crucial assist for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s opener.
The match reached its climax with an injury-time winner from Harry Winks, securing all three points for Leicester just moments after West Brom had equalized through Josh Maja.
Speaking about the win, Ndidi expressed his delight, emphasizing the significance of the three points, especially after a midweek draw against Sheffield Wednesday. “It was really brilliant,” beamed the Nigeria international to the LCFC website.
“We know it is very tight at the moment with the fact that the last game was not the best game, but we knew if we could get this, it’s really amazing because it gives us more steps ahead.”
Ndidi, who had a perfect view of the winning goal, described the jubilant scenes both in the dugout and among the away fans.
Having been substituted shortly before Dewsbury-Hall set up Winks for the decisive strike, Ndidi highlighted the satisfaction of seeing their practiced strategies come to fruition in the game.
“We saw everything from the throw-in and then the breakthrough. I can actually remember everything from Kel (Kelechi Iheanacho) to Kiernan [Dewsbury-Hall] and then Kiernan to Harry [Winks]. It was really amazing because even the reaction on the bench when the ball was going, we were all on our feet, and it was good.”
For Ndidi, the match at The Hawthorns provided crucial minutes on the field as he continues his return from an injury lay-off since November’s international break.
Looking ahead, he acknowledged the importance of maintaining focus on the upcoming challenge against Plymouth Argyle at King Power Stadium.
“It was really good for me because I was laid back and then I just tried to get more. That fitness and all was really good, to get 80 minutes. Of course, this one is now passed, so we have to look forward to the next one, get our shape together, and then we go on again.”
Ndidi will hope to be back in full fitness before Nigeria’s head coach Jose Peseiro announces his final squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in January.
