UEFAWCL: Chiamaka Nnadozie saves penalty to give Paris FC first Champions League win this season

Chiamaka Nnadozie won the African Goalkeeper of the Year Award for the female category at the just concluded CAF Awards ceremony held in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie saved a penalty to give her side their first three points of the season in the UEFA Champions League, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 23-year-old won the African Goalkeeper of the Year award and showed everyone last night why she deserved the award if ever there were any doubts after such a brilliant display.

Paris F.C. were winless in their last two group outings and knew that a loss at home to Real Madrid could be detrimental to their qualification ambitions, and started the game on the front foot.

Four minutes into the game, Julie Dufour broke the deadlock for the home side. The French winger outmuscled Ivana Andres after the ball fell kindly into her path and struck the ball into the top corner of the goal to give the Parisians the lead.

Real Madrid are on a poor run of form, winning just one from their past five games, and salt was added to their injury when the home side doubled the lead just two minutes after the opener.

Nnadozie played the ball out calmly whilst being under pressure from two Madrid attackers, freeing the space for Julie Soyer to run into. The team moved the ball forward quickly, with Mathilde Bourdieu finding a perfect pass to French legend, Gaëtane Thiney who wasted no time in doubling the lead.

Real Madrid had a chance from the penalty spot in the 25th minute when Julie Soyer handled the ball in her box. Olga Carmona stepped up to take the resulting set-piece for Los Blancos, but Chiamaka Nnadozie got down well and was equal to it, keeping the scoreline at 2-0.

Real Madrid pulled one back in the second half. Hayley Raso’s ball into the box was met by Caroline Møller Hansen but wasn’t enough as Paris held on for their first win in the group this season.

Paris F.C. are currently second on the Division 1 Feminine table with twenty-five points, five behind league leaders, Lyon.
