The Super Eagles players left in the UEFA Champions League have a big battle ahead of them, as the draws for the round of 16 of the competition were made on Monday at the headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, Soccernet.ng reports.
Napoli star and CAF Player of the Year Victor Osimhen will have to be at his best, as his side has been pitched against Spanish giants Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Zaidu Sanusi has a tough job on his hands as his Porto side face England’s big boys, Arsenal. Then, Sadiq Umar’s Real Sociedad will play PSG.
In the other fixtures, Inter Milan have a date with Atlético Madrid; Dutch champions PSV face Borussia Dortmund; Lazio will trade tackles against Bayern Munich; and FC Copenhagen will lock horns with Premier League champions Manchester City.
The first legs of the round of 16 will be played on 13–14 and 20–21 February 2024, while the return legs have been fixed for 5–6 and 12–13 March 2024.
Of all the three Nigerian players, only Sadiq Umar has never played in the round of 16 of the Champions League. Osimhen played in the quarterfinal last season, while Sanusi has featured in the quarterfinal twice in the last three seasons.
