Transfer: Galatasaray set sights on Wilfred Ndidi to replace underwhelming French midfielder

Wilfred Ndidi missed the last International break due to an injury that has since kept him out of action and was sorely missed as the Super Eagles drew the opening two games.

Super Eagles defensive midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, is the first choice on Galatasaray’s list of midfielders to replace Tottenham Hotspur loanee, Tansguy Ndombele, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ndombele, 26, joined Tottenham Hotspur from Olympique Lyonnais after a UEFA Champions League run that saw them usurp big clubs, but the transfer hasn’t gone according to plan for the Frenchman.

Since joining Spurs, Ndombele has moved to Napoli on loan with the option to buy, before travelling to Turkey to don the colours of Galatasaray, and just six months into the deal, the club have agreed they wouldn’t be buying him.

According to Turkish outlet, Milliyet, Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi is Cim Bom’s first choice to replace the former Lyon midfielder who has fallen out of favour at the Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi.

Ndidi’s current contract with The Foxes expires in June 2024, and with contract talks with the Leicester bosses yet to begin, the player is free to enter into a pre-contract with any club in January.

However, according to the report, Galatasaray are looking to make a move for the Nigerian during the winter transfer window as other clubs are interested in the Super Eagles international as well.

Galatasaray were close to sealing a transfer for Ndidi last summer, but their valuation of the midfielder differed from what Leicester City wanted.

Under Enzo Maresca, Ndidi has been rejuvenated, playing as a box to box midfielder, and helping Leicester in their fight for promotion to the English top-flight league.
