Super Eagles defender joins Leeds United, Coventry, Blackburn, Preston stars in Championship Team of the Month

The Nigeria international has been exceptional this season for the Bluebirds after returning from the injury that sidelined him for most of last term

Super Eagles defender Jamilu Collins has been named in the EFL Championship Team of the Month for November following his brilliant performances for Cardiff City, Soccernet.ng reports.

Cardiff City were not particularly impressive in November as the Bluebirds won only one game – a 2-1 victory away to Preston North End – out of the five played.

However, Collins, who featured in only three league matches, was the club’s most consistent performer as the Nigerian defender bagged an astonishing Whoscored rating of 7.31 for his displays in the period under review.

The former Paderborn left-back provided one assist in the month, and he also won possession in the defensive third 11 times to be the only Cardiff City player in the league’s best eleven selection.

High-flying Coventry City have three representatives in the Team of the Month, including goalkeeper Bradley Collins, right-back Milan van Ewijk, and central midfielder Ben Sheaf.

Three Balckburn Rovers – James Hill, Sammie Szmodics, and Andrew Moran – also get the nod, while Bristol City defender Rob Dickie, Hull City’s Jaden Philogene, Preston’s Alan Browne, and Leeds United striker Georginio Rutter complete the elite setup.

On the international scene, Collins is back in the Super Eagles fold after missing much of 2022 due to injury.

The 29-year-old defender was involved as Nigeria managed two 1-1 draws with Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the opening rounds of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Collins, who won a bronze medal at the 2019 AFCON, will hope to make the Super Eagles squad to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next month.
