Nigerians abroad: Onyekuru bags brilliant brace; Udoh, Emmanuel impress in England, Bulgaria

Soccernet.ng highlights some eye-catching displays from Nigerian footballers outside the country’s shores on Friday, December 1, 2023.

Lagos-born forward Dominic Udoh impressed for Shrewsbury Town as they advanced to the 3rd round of the FA Cup with a 3-2 win over Notts County.

Udoh assisted the first of Ryan Bowman’s excellent hat-trick in the game’s opening minute and did well throughout before he was replaced deep in stoppage time.

In Belgium’s Challenger Pro League, Abdullahi Ibrahim Alhassan provided the assist to Beerschot’s second goal as they strolled to a 0-2 away win at Patro Eisden.

Flying Eagles forward, Emmanuel Umeh started his seventh game of the season and scored for the fourth time to inspire Botev Plovdiv to a straightforward 0-2 win away to Arda in the Bulgarian first division.

In Cyprus, the Super Eagles duo of goalkeeper Francis Uzoho and Akinkunmi Amoo watched from the bench throughout as Omonia Nicosia claimed a hard-fought 1-2 away victory at Othellos.

In Denmark, Stephen Odey and Mustapha Ubandoma featured for Randers, but the home side lacked cutting edge in the final third as they wobbled to a goalless draw with Vejle.

Kelechi Nwakali delivered a fine performance as Chaves ended a run of three straight league defeats with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Vizela in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

In Saudi Arabia, Henry Onyekuru made good his vow to challenge for a spot in Nigeria’s AFCON squad as he was outstanding despite Al-Fayha falling to a 2-4 loss at the hands of Damak.

Onyekuru scored both of Al-Fahya’s consolation goals to take his season’s tally to five goals in 15 league games. Compatriot Anthony Nwakaeme also featured for Al-Fayha in the encounter.

In the Turkish Super Lig, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Hatayspor played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Antalyaspor at the Mersin Stadyumu in Mersin.
