Iwobi and Bassey helpless as Fulham suffer painful loss to Burnley

Fulham were in rich form at the start of December, but they have struggled in their last two games

Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey played all 90 minutes for Fulham, but they could not help them avoid a 2-0 loss against Premier League strugglers Burnley, Soccernet.ng reports.

Fulham had a great start to December, picking big wins against West Ham and Nottingham Forest, but they were brought back to earth last week after a 3-0 thrashing in the hands of Newcastle United.

Iwobi and Iwob have also become regulars for the club in recent weeks, and coach Marco Silva fixed the two Nigeria internationals in the starting eleven when they played hosts to Burnley at Craven Cottage. The Cottagers were expected to win because of their quality, but they flattered to deceive.

Fulham had twelve shots in the first half, but they failed to convert any into a goal. Iwobi had a shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but his effort was not good enough to trouble James Trafford.

The first half ended goalless, but in the second half, Burnley played better, and they got the opener through Wilson Odobert just two minutes after the break. Then, in the 66th minute, Sander Berge scored the second for the Clarets to give Burnley a cushion.

Fulham probed hard to pull one back, but Burnley held their lines. Iwobi had five goal attempts, two dribbles, and three key passes, but his effort was just insufficient. Meanwhile, Bassey looked shaky occasionally, but he was well covered by Tosin Adarabioyo. Both players saw out the entire 90 minutes, and it eventually ended 2-0 to Burnley, a win that took the Clarets up to 19th. Fulham, on the other hand, dropped to 12th position on the Premier League table.
