It was not our day – Sadiq Umar urges Real Sociedad teammates on after draw at Osasuna

The Txuri-Urdin put up a brilliant performance against Osasuna, but they just fell short in the end

Super Eagles forward Sadiq Umar has expressed disappointment following his Real Sociedad’s 1-1 draw with Osasuna on Saturday, but he has urged to keep going, Soccernet.ng reports.

Umar was on target for Real Sociedad when they travelled to Osasuna for their Laliga fixture on Saturday. The Nigeria attacker scored a beauty from the edge of the D after Osasuna took the lead in the second minute via Moi Gomez.

The Txuri-Urdin looked good for most of the game, bossing the possession and registering 17 goal attempts. However, they could not utilise the opportunity, as they had to settle for the draw.

The result left Real Sociedad in 6th position on the Laliga table, pending the result of Betis and Almeria on Sunday.

After the game, Umar expressed disappointment with the result, but he raised his teammates’ character.

“It was not an easy game. We created a lot of opportunities, unfortunately. But we all know we deserved the three points,” Umar said.

“To play in this kind of stadium, against this kind of team is very hard. But I’m proud of the team because we fought hard and created a lot of chances, but it was not our day. Nonetheless, we keep going.”

Umar also spoke about his health and his recovery from the injury that saw him sidelined for over nine months.

“I feel good, I think I’m getting better step by step because last season I was out. The more I play, the more I get better,” Umar added.

Following his strike on Saturday, Umar now has two goals in two goals in his last two Laliga games for Real Sociedad, and he will be looking to continue that run when his side travel to Villarreal next week.
