“I started dreaming” – Super Eagles winger expresses disappointment over failed Liverpool move

Chidera Ejuke featured for Hertha Berlin twenty-one times last season, but couldn’t find the back of the net on any occasion.

Super Eagles fleet-footed winger, Chidera Ejuke has expressed how he felt about how his move to Liverpool failed earlier on in his career, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ejuke, 25, is currently on loan with Belgian side, Royal Antwerp from his parent club, CSKA Moscow. The winger has scored three goals from thirteen outings this season.

A young Ejuke first reached the shores of Europe at the budding age of 17, with Manchester City, Liverpool and Norwegian side, Vålerenga picking interest in the former Gombe United player.

The Nigerian arrived in Europe for the first time when Norwegian side Vålerenga Fotball signed him in 2017.

However, according to a report revealed by Sportswitness quoting Het Nieuwsblad, it was the Reds that invited Ejuke for a week’s trial, but a move failed to materialize.

The Nigerian international has revealed he was disappointed after failing to seal a move to Anfield and explained why the rejection was initially difficult to handle.

“I was allowed to train with the youth team for a week. I started dreaming, I could see myself playing in the first team, but things didn’t go as expected. I wasn’t good enough, it turned out, and I had to start all over again. That was quite difficult because you realise that you don’t get opportunities like that often. I felt like I had disappointed my family,” the 25-year-old said in quotes revealed in the report.

Now well-travelled across Europe, Ejuke believes the Liverpool failure aided him when he finally got his big move to Europe in 2017.

“But okay, that’s life. Get up and get going, for the love of the game. And that experience came in handy when I was able to return to Europe two years later,” Ejuke explained.

Ejuke suspended his contract with CSKA Moscow for the 2022/23 season, having taken advantage of the FIFA ruling relating to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
