Ex-Crystal Palace star Zaha snubbed as Nigeria’s opponents Ivory Coast unveil 27-man AFCON squad

Ivory Coast are one of Nigeria’s group-stage opponents, and they have released their final squad for the tournament

Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations group stage opponents Ivory Coast have unveiled their final 27-man squad for the tournament, Soccernet.ng reports.

Two weeks ago, 2023 AFCON hosts Ivory Coast unveiled a 54-man provisional squad for the AFCON slated for January next year.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) set January 3rd as the date for the submission of final squads. But coach Jean-Louis Gasset has set the pace by releasing his squad for the competition. And in a shock move, the French tactician has omitted former Crystal Palace star Wilfred Zaha from the list.

Meanwhile, there are some notable inclusions like Nicholas Pepe, Simon Adingra, Sebastien Haller, and Jeremie.

  • Look how balance this team are, right numbers of GK, DEF, DFM/CMF/AMF, LW/RW and Strikers.
Our own selection will be so stupid, 3 GK, 6 DEF, 3 DFM/CMF/AMF, the rest will be useless Strikers.
We don’t need more than 2/3 strikers for a tournament, we need more midfielders, 4 stable DFM, 3 creative CMF/AMF that can support the strikers and help in defence. I don’t want to see Musa Ahmed name on the list oooo.
