Nigeria Professional Football League side Rivers United became the third Nigerian team to defeat Club Africain after their 1-0 win at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt, Soccernet.ng reports.

Rivers United were underdogs when they welcomed Club Africain to Port Harcourt in their third CAF Confederations Cup game of the season. The Pride of Rivers entered the game with a 50 percent record after beating Academica in their first game and losing to Dreams FC in their second game. They needed a win against Tunisian side Club Africain to make sure they still had a good chance of qualifying from their group.

The Tunisian giants started well and looked more dangerous in the attack. However, they failed to utilize their chances. Rivers United eventually capitalized on their mistakes, with Nyima Nwagua converting converting an opportunity in the box to give the former League champions the lead.

Club Africain had a plethora of chances in the second half, but they were too wasteful. Rivers United eventually ran out with all three points.
