Nigeria will open their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a tricky home game against the Crocodiles
Real Sociedad’s Umar Sadiq has dismissed notions of competition with other strikers in the Super Eagles’ attacking lineup, Soccernet.ng reports.
The forward shed light on the speculations surrounding several talented Nigerian strikers vying for a spot in the team’s offensive department.
Sadiq is presently in the Super Eagles camp, where the team is gearing up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier clashes against Lesotho’s Likuena and Zimbabwe’s Warriors this week.
The Super Eagles boast one of the most formidable attacking arsenals on the continent, with any of Sadiq, Kelechi Iheanacho, Terem Moffi, Victor Boniface, and Taiwo Awoniyi able to step in for the injured Victor Osimhen.
Expressing the team’s collective goal, Sadiq highlighted that Super Eagles players are driven to secure victories and titles.
Speaking to NFF TV, the former AS Roma forward emphasised that players prioritise the success of the team over individual game time.
“Whenever we come here, we are always motivated; we want to play for the country,” remarked Umar Sadiq.
“We are always happy to represent the country whether you start, had some minutes, or are on the bench; we are always ready to represent.”
Further underscoring the team’s commitment, the former Almeri forward called for the unwavering support of fans and national team enthusiasts as they journey towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament.
“They should keep supporting us, and I hope in the two games, we will come out with good results,” he added.
Nigeria missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
However, the three-time African champions will start the qualification for the 2026 Mundial as the favourite to pick the ticket ahead of South Africa, Lesotho, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, and the Benin Republic.
