Nathan Tella has recently earned his first Super Eagles call up following his impressive performance for his time at Burnley FC and now Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen forward, Nathan Tella, is eager to showcase his skills in the upcoming Super Eagles games, Soccernet.ng reports.
Tella, who recently received his first call-up to the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, expressed his excitement about training with the talented Nigerian team.
Having played a crucial role in Burnley FC’s promotion to the English Premier League before joining Bayer Leverkusen, Tella has also made an impact in the German Bundesliga, recently scoring his first league goal in six appearances under the management of Xabi Alonso.
Reflecting on his first training session with the national team, Tella praised the welcoming atmosphere and the opportunity to play alongside top football stars.
“It [my first training session] was good, if we have very talented team, very good players and it’s nice to be a part of them, they’ve welcomed me well and now I am looking forward to the upcoming games.” Tella said.
He emphasized his desire to challenge himself by competing with and against the best players, both at the club and international levels.
He added: “To play with the best player in the country, I always want to push myself and challenge myself to play among the best and be among the best.
“I’ve got the opportunity to do that at club level, and now I can do it at the international level. So it’s a pick-up opportunity for me”
When asked about what Nigerian fans should expect from him in the upcoming matches, Tella described himself as a direct player who makes runs from behind, excels in one-on-one situations, dribbles effectively, and contributes both in scoring and assisting the team.
“[They should expect] someone who is direct, make a lot of runs from behind, [someone who] likes to get to one-on-one situations, dribble, also to score and assists my team.” He said.
