“We need someone like Mikel Obi” – Ahmed Musa bemoans lack of experience in Super Eagles squad

Ahmed Musa scored a brace for Nigeria against Iceland in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia on June 22nd, 2018, securing all three points.

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has called out for the inclusion of experienced in the National team to foster leadership and aid younger players, Soccernet.ng reports.

Musa, 31, also complained that the mismanaged passions of Nigerian football fans have caused some of the big stars who left the team no choice but to stick with their decisions.

Nigeria have one of the youngest squads on the continent, with the majority of the players yet to get into their peak, and are under the age of twenty-eight.

“As you can see, we still need someone like Mikel Obi in the team, we still need Victor Moses. It’s not just about having young players in the team because you need players to mentor them, which we don’t have right now,” Musa mentioned in quotes revealed by Punch.

Musa also advised the media to reduce the burden on the team’s younger players, realising the hardship they face from fans.

“Please, I beg the media, take it easy on these young boys; they can’t take too much pressure. That is why, once they step onto the pitch to play, they worry because they are concerned about what they will see on their Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook accounts,” the 31-year-old added.

Nigeria have drawn two of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying games and could be in deep trouble if they fail to grab three points and score more goals soon, as they’ve scored just two goals in two games.

  • Yes, Super Eagles need Williams Troost-Ekong, Jordan Touronarigha, Akpoguna (who are experienced defenders with top sides in their respective contries' leagues and are playingregularly) and we still need Victor Moses in Super Eagles. Believe it or not, the right wing is in bad shape just like the goalkeeping position. NFF, please invite goalkeepers Jonathan Rasheed and Sabastian Osigwe to Super Eagles. The Super Eagles need help urgently.

    • I was watching Enyimba match yesterday and I discovered that all we need as a goalkeeper is that Bendel Insurance guy, Amas
