The Super Eagles of Nigeria are slated to tackle Lesotho on Thursday in Uyo for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers
Boavista defender Chidozie Awaziem expressed the Super Eagles’ determination to secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup after missing out on the last edition in Qatar 2022, Soccernet.ng reports.
However, as they kickstart a new journey to securing the 2026 World Cup ticket with a opening clash against Lesotho and then Zimbabwe, the Super Eagles aim to go all out having lost the last ticket to Ghana.
Awa idk speaking to the media emphasized the team’s collective aspiration to make a triumphant return to the World Cup, acknowledging the fervent desire of Nigerians to see the Super Eagles on the global stage.
It would be recalled that the Super Eagles of Nigeria have done impressively well during their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers where they secured a spot in the tourney to be held in Côte d’Ivoire.
After defeating São Tomé and Principe with a score of 6-nil as well as edging past Sierra Leone, Jose Peseiro’s troops say confidently at the top of the Group A standings with 15 points.
With Rwanda, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, South Africa and the Republic of Benin in the same Group C, the defender sends a message to other teams in the group and what they are hoping to achieve.
“Our dream is to go to the World Cup. Nigerians want to see us there, and we are working towards qualifying as well,” stated the Boavista player.
He highlighted the team’s commitment to earning maximum points in the upcoming qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, underlining the players’ readiness and focus on the challenges ahead.
He added: “We will work hard to get maximum points in these two games and then focus on the other games. All the boys are battle-ready and focused on the task ahead.”
