Samuel Chukwueze moved to join AC Milan during the summer transfer window but has earned limited time on Stefano Pioli’s Starting XI
Super Eagles’ standout, Samuel Chukwueze, is on the brink of securing his first consecutive start for Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan following his summer transfer move, Soccernet.ng reports.
Despite arriving at Milan shortly after the acquisition of American international Christian Pulisic, Chukwueze has faced tough competition, with Pulisic often preferred over the Nigerian star.
However, an opportunity has emerged for Chukwueze as Rafael Leao sustained an injury during a 2-2 draw against Lecce, paving the way for the Nigerian winger to potentially secure back-to-back starts for the first time since joining Milan.
Leao suffered a first-degree lesion on his right femoral bicep during the match at the Via del Mare Stadium before the recent international break, leaving Pioli contemplating a repositioning of Noah Okafor to cover for the suspended Olivier Giroud upfront.
This strategic move would likely see Chukwueze starting on the right side of Milan’s attacking trio, while Pulisic assumes the left flank, and Okafor moves centrally in Leao’s absence.
Preparations are underway, with the potential makeshift attacking trio expected to train together ahead of the upcoming fixtures against Fiorentina and the subsequent Champions League clash against Dortmund.
This opportunity could be pivotal for the swift Nigerian winger to cement his place within the AC Milan squad, thereby providing Pioli with more depth and selection dilemmas.
