Report: NFF target Leverkusen’s Nathan Tella as solution for Super Eagles’ injury crises

Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella previously expressed his love to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria

The Nigeria Football Federation is reportedly considering inviting Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella as a potential solution to the Super Eagles’ injury woes, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles are preparing to face Lesotho and Zambia in their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification matches.

However, injuries to key players have left coach Jose Peseiro facing a selection dilemma as he aims to secure a World Cup spot for the three-time Africa Cup of Nations champions.

With doubts surrounding the availability of players like Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and Taiwo Awoniyi for the Lesotho and Zimbabwe ties, the Nigerian football body is reportedly searching for replacements, and Nathan Tella is among the options being considered.

Tella, who has yet to make an appearance for any national team, has previously expressed his desire to represent the Super Eagles.

The former Southampton player, who played a pivotal role for Burnley during a loan spell from Southampton, has sought advice from players like Joe Aribo and Victor Boniface about what it’s like to play for the national team.

“I’ve asked him quite a bit and at Southampton I had Joe Aribo as well, so I spoke to both of them just to see what it’s like, but obviously, I’ve been with Victor and he’s been telling me what’s it like so if I get the chance I’ll love to play with him there,” he once said.

As the Super Eagles face uncertainty due to player injuries, Nigerian football fans are hoping that the best available talent will be called up for these crucial matches.
