Coach Paul Offor’s side have been poor on their travels, securing just one point from a possible twelve this term.
A lone goal from Moses Omodumeke was enough to secure all three points for Sunshine Stars at home against Sporting Lagos, Soccernet.ng reports.
Udoh Godwin started in place of Sporting’s highest goal scorer, Jonathan Alukwu who missed the game due to personal reasons while Junior Lokosa started the game from the bench.
Sporting were still shaken from the 1-1 draw against Heartland last week and were almost pegged back just three minutes into the game, but a stunning Christian Nwoke stop kept the scoreline goalless.
Twelve minutes into the game, an injury forced Coach Offor into an early substitution as Chisom Orji made way for Saturday Okon.
Twelve minutes later, Sunshine stars broke the deadlock, thanks to Moses Omodumeke, who slot the ball past Christian Nwoke to give the home side lift-off.
Another injury forced Coach Paul into a second change as Godwin Odibo went off and was replaced by Akpesiri Naibe.
The noisy Lagosians came firing on all fronts in the second half, but efforts from Emmanuel Odafi and Emeka were all thwarted by the Sunshine stars defence.
Lokosa was sent on by the coach with the hopes of securing at least an equalizer, but it was the hosts who nearly doubled their lead, but were again denied by Christian Nwoke.
The referees final whistle confirmed Sporting Lagos to be 14th in the league table with twelve points, eight behind League leaders, Lobi Stars.
