Nigerians abroad: Super Eagles GK Okoye’s return ends in Cup exit; Nnamani scores five, Bassey, Iwobi advance with Fulham

Soccernet.ng highlights some eye-catching displays from Nigerian footballers outside the country’s shores on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.

In the English League Cup, Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi were on the winning side, as Fulham handed a 1-3 defeat to Sone Aluko and Ipswich Town.

Umar Sadiq and Real Sociedad advanced to the next round of the Copa del Rey after claiming a narrow 0-1 win away to Buñol.

In the Coppa Italia, Maduka Okoye made his first appearance for Udinese, but it ended in disappointment as Cagliari claimed a 1-2 win after extra-time.

The Super Eagles goalkeeper was impressive as he made eight saves, including an incredible double save right at the end.

In the DFB Pokal, Victor Boniface was an unused substitute, but Bayer Leverkusen had little trouble securing a 2-5 away victory over Sandhausen.

However, Kevin Akpoguma is out of the competition as Borussia Dortmund edged to a 1-0 win over Hoffenheim.

In Finland’s Veikkausliiga, Peter Michael scored for the tenth straight game as his effort secured all the maximum points for VPS following their 0-1 victory against Honka.

Over to the Hungarian Magyar Kupa, where Bright Edomwonyi was among the goals for Diósgyőr in their 1-3 triumph over Siófok.

At the Haladás Stadion, Meshack Izuchukwu Ubochioma opened the scoring for Zalaegerszeg as they sealed a slim 1-2 win at Szombathelyi.

Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations hero Victor Moses suffered a harsh exit from the Russian Cup after Moses Cobnan and Krasnodar battled to a 2-3 win.

In the Scottish Premier League, Leon Balogun was a rock in defence, while substitute Cyriel Dessers scored for Rangers as they cruised to a 0-5 away victory against Dundee.

Over to Thailand’s FA Cup, where Samuel Nnamani hit the target five times to propel Nakhon Pathom United to a crushing 10-0 victory over Thai Spirit.
